In the Nineteen Eighties, no Ohio Class AAA boy’s basketball program may rival Admiral King’s because the winningest basketball group within the decade.

The 1981-82 group was a tone-setting group for the last decade of dominance, with a report of 24-2.

Its solely losses had been to Lorain High, 60-56, and Toledo Scott, 47-44, within the Class AAA Kent State Regional Final.

The Admirals gained 19 consecutive video games, a faculty report. Admiral King was ranked third within the closing AP state ballot of the season and was topped champions of the Buckeye Conference.

They had been coached by the late Mitch Gillam, who was named Ohio Coach of the Year by UPI and the highest coach of the Buckeye Conference.

Michael Walton was named the Buckeye Conference’s Player of the Year.

2019 Lorain Sports Hall of Fame inductee Roger Smith led the Admiral King in scoring as a junior, previous to taking part in for Ohio University.

He averaged 16.3 factors per recreation in faculty and set the college report with 159 assists in a season. Smith additionally led the Admirals with 98 steals.

Valuable contributors included Bill Heider, Ed Suggs. Both had been chosen for the Coaches’ Award. Michael Jackson gained the Craig Demyan Memorial Award. The most improved participant went to sophomore Steve Davis.
