Thousands of Lord Ayyappa devotees took half within the ceremonial ‘Petta thullal’ — a ritualistic dance which marks the fruits of the 2 month lengthy annual Sabarimala pilgrimage — at Erumeli in Kottayam district of the State on Wednesday.

The dance was led by groups from Ambalapuzha and Alangad areas having devotional hyperlinks with the deity.

The enormous procession of the Ambalapuzha staff, accompanied by caparisoned elephants with umbrellas on prime of them, commenced from Sri Dharma Sastha temple right here at midday after sighting the ‘Krishnaparunthu’ — an auspicious eagle — within the sky.

Thousands of devotees, with foreheads and our bodies lined in numerous colors and sporting gold colored cardboard crowns, danced to the tune of drum beats all the way in which to the Vavar mosque.

Similarly, within the afternoon at round 3 PM, the staff from Alangad commenced their dance procession from the Sri Dharma Sastha temple to the mosque after sighting an auspicious star within the sky as per customized.

Both groups danced from the Dharma Sastha temple to the mosque to pay reverence to Lord Ayyappa’s trusted Muslim lieutenant Vavar, who helped the deity to defeat demon king Mahishasur, and continued on their approach to Valiambalam right here. From there each groups will proceed to Sabarimala.
