The news of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt being diagnosed with lung cancer has left millions of actor’s fans in shock. The ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S’ star is reportedly flying to the US to undergo treatment for the same. Dutt’s wife Maanyata, in a statement to news agency
PTI, has opened up about her husband’s health diagnosis and feels that despite the major setback, ‘we’ll emerge as winners’.

While Maanyata did not elaborate on Dutt’s health condition, she has expressed gratitude to all those who sent wishes for his speedy recovery.

“I thank everyone who has expressed their well wishes for Sanju’s speedy recovery. We need all the strength and prayers to overcome this phase. There is a lot that the family has gone through in the past years but I am confident, this too shall pass,” said Maanyata in her statement.

The CEO of Sanjay Dutt Productions also requested fans to not fall prey to ‘speculations and unwarranted rumours’. Elaborating further on Dutt’s situation, Maanyata said that the actor is a fighter and that God has again chosen to test the family but she is sure that they’ll ’emerge as winners’.

“God has yet again chosen to test us to overcome the challenges ahead. All we seek is your prayers and blessings, and we know we will emerge as winners on the other side, as we always have.”

A day after being discharged from the hospital where he was admitted after complaints of breathlessness, Dutt, on Tuesday, said that he will be taking a “short break from work” due to some medical treatment.

The 61-year-old actor, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital over the weekend, requested well-wishers not to worry or speculate.

Several Bollywood stars, the likes of Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar, have also sent their best wishes to the actor, wishing for his speedy recovery.

Matondkar, who has starred alongside Dutt in ‘Khoobsurat’ and ‘Daud’, called Dutt a ‘fighter’ and prayed for his recovery.

‘Sadden to hear about your health challenge dear baba,’ wrote Koirala in her tweet.

Earlier, cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who has also struggled with lung cancer in the past, had written a heartfelt note for Dutt, “You are, have and always will be a fighter @duttsanjay .”

Among various diseases prevalent in the country, cancer is known as one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in the country. As per Indian population census data, the rate of mortality due to cancer in India is high and alarming in people below the age of 70.
