A man in India who spent 16 hours clinging for life to a tree to escape floods was finally saved in a daring helicopter rescue Monday.

Footage of the operation showed the Indian Air Force helicopter save the man from floods in the Kutaghat Dam area of the Chhattisgarh state on Monday, CBS reported.

The rescue came as large swaths of India and Bangladesh have seen heavy rainfall over the past few weeks.

There have been 868 people killed in the floods, with landslides in 11 states, in less than three months, according to figures Monday from India’s Interior Ministry.

Meanwhile, more than 14 million people have been impacted or displaced from nearly 13,000 villages, CBS reported.
