More than 30 college students, largely women, have been injured in Manipur’s Imphal Valley on Tuesday because the police fired tear fuel shells and baton-charged a mob protesting towards the killing of two youths who have been allegedly kidnapped in July, officers mentioned.

The protesters clashed with the police when safety forces tried to cease them from advancing in the direction of the chief minister’s secretariat right here, police mentioned.

The injured protesters have been handled at numerous hospitals.

Hours after images of the our bodies of two college students, who had been lacking since July, went viral on social media, the Manipur authorities has requested folks to train restraint and permit authorities to research the “kidnapping and killing” of the duo.

In an announcement issued by the secretariat of Chief Minister N Biren Singh late on Monday evening, the state authorities mentioned the case has already been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Two college students have been recognized as Phijam Hemjit (20) and Hijam Linthoingambi (17).

“The state police, in collaboration with the central security agencies, are actively investigating the case to determine the circumstances surrounding their disappearance and to identify the perpetrators who murdered the two students. The security forces have also started the search operation to nab the perpetrators,” the assertion mentioned.

Security personnel have been placed on alert, and extra measures taken to forestall any incident following the viral of images of the scholars, a senior officer mentioned.
