Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan in an unique interview to NDTV has given an in depth account of India’s large ‘Operation Kaveri’ to evacuate stranded residents from conflict-hit Sudan.

“Many of them told me they were pulled out from the jaws of death and reached safe centres in Port Sudan, from where they were taken to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia,” Mr Muraleedharan instructed NDTV from Jeddah, when requested concerning the dangers the Indians confronted whereas taking the lengthy land route from Khartoum to Port Sudan.

“The first batch of Indians started travelling even before the first ceasefire was announced. Even during the ceasefire there was sporadic gunfire at many parts.
