NORFOLK, Va. – The Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame announced that Mark West, a former ODU men’s basketball star, is part of the 2021 induction class. Joining West in the 2021 Hall of Fame class are baseball standout Melvin “B.J.” Upton, tennis player Julie Shiflet, lacrosse coach Tom Duquette and journalist David Teel.
 
West, who is also an ODU Hall of Fame inductee, was a three-time basketball All-American at Old Dominion and twice led the nation in blocked shots. For his collegiate career, he finished with 446 blocked shots (first in program history), 1,113 rebounds (second in program history), a 55.9% field goal percentage (third in program history) and 1,308 points (28th in program history).
 
West went on to play 17 seasons in the NBA for seven teams, including the 1993 West Division champion Phoenix Suns. His career shooting percentage (.580) is third in NBA history. Since 2001, he has served in several positions for the Phoenix Suns and currently holds the position of Director of Alumni Relations.
 
West, Upton, Shiflet, Duquette and Teel will be inducted into the Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame at a banquet on Monday, November 8, at the Scope arena in Norfolk.
