Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated the winners of Swachh Survekshan survey 2020 and lauded the “competitive spirit that strengthens India’s cleanliness programme – Swachh Bharat Mission.

“Congratulations to all those cities who have secured top positions in #SwachhSurvekshan2020. May other cities also be inspired to further ramp up their efforts towards ensuring cleanliness. Such competitive spirit strengthens the Swachh Bharat Mission and benefits millions,” PM Modi tweeted.

In the fifth edition of the survey published of India’s cleanliness index, Indore has been announced as India’s cleanest city for fourth straight year. The second and third positions in the category were grabbed by Surat and Navi Mumbai respectively. Additionally, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has bagged the first rank in the “cleanest capital” city category.

Varanasi has been the adjudged the ‘best Ganga town’ in the central government’s cleanliness survey.

The 10 top-ranked cities, having a population of more than 10 lakh, are Indore, Surat, Navi Mumbai, Vijaywada, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Bhopal, Chandigarh, GVMS Visakhapatnam and Vadodara.Apart from these, Lucknow is ranked 12th, Ghaziabad 19th, Prayagraj 20th, Dhanbad 33th and Faridabad 38th.Patna was ranked the lowest among 47 cities, while Chennai is at the 45th place. Meerut is ranked 41st, followed by Madurai, North Delhi and Kota.
