The accused, identified as Ritesh Bharti, saw several tutorial videos on YouTube on how to break ATMs, including which weapons to use for the crime, India Today reported.

An investigating official said, “The accused wanted to spend lavishly on his girlfriend by taking her out and showering her with gifts. So, he hatched a plan and figured out this particular ATM that did not have a security guard stationed. Our team is yet to recover the cutter and iron rod that were used in the breaking of the ATM.”
“No cash was reported missing as he was unsuccessful in removing money, which is the only thing he was concerned with. He was inside the ATM kiosk for an hour and he completely destroyed it. When the money did not come out, he left. The accused also damaged the steel door and a digital lock while trying to rob the ATM,” the investigating official said.
