Mumbai Police to record Karan Johar’s statement in Sushant Singh Rajput case

  • The Mumbai Police will record the statement of filmmaker Karan Johar this week in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, officials said on Monday.
  • According to the police, statements of 40 people, including film critic Rajeev Masand, director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and filmmaker Aditya Chopra have been recorded in the investigation so far.
  • Among others whose statements were recorded in the case at Bandra police station are Rajput’s cook Neeraj Singh, domestic help Keshav Bachner, manager Deepesh Sawant, creative manager Siddharth Ramnathmurti Pithani, sisters Neetu and Meetu Singh.

  • Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra has agreed to summon a session of the state assembly provided the government gives a 21-day notice, PTI reported.
  • The condition is part of three suggestions the Governor has made while returning Ashok Gehlot Cabinet’s recommendation.
  • The cabinet recommendation was that he should call a session of the Vidhan Sabha.
  • Gehlot wants to call a sessiion quickly and seek a trust vote for he fears rebel Sachin Pilot with backing of BJP will lure more MLAs from his camp.
  • This was the second time that Mishra has returned a Cabinet proposal on convening the assembly.

Congress leaders write to Rajasthan Governor over proposal to convene Assembly Session

  • Former Union law ministers and Congress leaders Salman Khurshid, Ashwani Kumar and Kapil Sibal on Monday wrote to Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra over the proposal to convene the Assembly Session.
  • “Any deviation from the established constitutional petition in the present circumstances would be an avoidable negation of your oath of office and create a constitutional crisis,” the letter reads.
  • Citing the reason to write the letter to the governor, the leaders said, “We are constrained to write to you in respect of recent developments in the State of Rajasthan concerning the delay in convening the session of Vidhan Sabha as decided and advised by the Council of Ministers. This has resulted in an avoidable constitutional impasse.”

Till now, 645 police personnel in Jharkhand have tested positive for COVID19 including 44 recoveries.

Falling imports, moderate crude to help post 0.4% current account surplus, first since FY04: Study

  • After many quarters, the economy logged in a marginal current account surplus in June quarter at 0.1 per cent or USD 600 million as against a deficit of USD 4.6 billion or 0.7 per cent of GDP in FY19, according to the latest Reserve Bank data.
