Football and volleyball workouts at Howell High School were cancelled this week after students were possibly exposed to COVID-19 off school grounds, district officials said.

The students attended an “out-school event” last week and were possibly exposed to someone with the virus, the Freehold Regional High School District spokeswoman Rebecca Policastro told NJ Advance Media Wednesday. The high school is part of the Freehold Regional High School District.

“We reported this to the department of health and out of an abundance of caution, canceled football and volleyball workouts for the week,” Policastro said.

No other details were made public by Policastro.

The school has been offering optional summer workouts on for fall sports which include football, boys and girls soccer, girls tennis, girls volleyball and field hockey.

Parents and athletes are required to complete daily COVID-19 pre-screening questions prior to arriving for summer workouts and also have their temperature taken, according to school’s web site.
