– China has been in communication with the United States over US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s expected visit to Taiwan, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

– Stressing China’s solemn position, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned that some US politicians who selfishly play with fire on the Taiwan question will become the enemies to 1.4 billion Chinese people and won’t meet with a good end, according to Chinese state media outlet Global Times.

– 8 US fighter jets and 5 refueling planes took off from the US military base, may be going to provide parameter security for Pelosi’s plane, reported Japanese media.

– A Taiwanese legislator, citing the latest congressional calendar, said a meeting between a congressional delegation led by Nancy Pelosi and Taiwan’s Legislative Speaker You Si-kun was scheduled for Wednesday morning, according to  Taiwan media.

– The military aircraft likely carrying the delegation led by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was spotted possibly bypassing the South China Sea, where China is reportedly ratcheting up military activity ahead of her potential visit to Taiwan, according to Taiwan media. Pelosi is expected to land at Taipei Songshan Airport in the country’s capital city at 10:20 Tuesday night, Taiwan media reported.

 – The Kremlin said that a visit by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan would be a provocation and expressed full solidarity with China. “What is connected with this tour and a possible visit to Taiwan is a pure provocation. We want to emphasise once again that we are absolutely in solidarity with China,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to AFP.

– China said Tuesday that the United States will “pay the price” if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Taiwan during her Asia trip.

– Taiwan is preparing its air-raid shelters as rising tension with China and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine raise new fears about the possibility of a Chinese attack on the democratic island. The preparations include designating shelters where people can take cover if Chinese missiles start flying in, not in purpose-built bunkers but in underground spaces like basement car parks, the subway system and subterranean shopping centres.

– In response to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, Beijing has formulated a series of countermeasures, including military actions, according to journalist Xijin.

– Nancy Pelosi arrived in Malaysia on Tuesday for the second leg of an Asian tour that has been clouded by an expected stop in Taiwan, which would escalate tensions with Beijing. The plane carrying Pelosi and her delegation touched down at an air force base amid tight security, national news agency Bernama reported.

– Beijing has reacted furiously to Pelsoi’s visit, warning President Joe Biden that his administration was playing “with fire” and announcing a series of live-fire military drills in the Taiwan Straits.

– US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will make her own decisions regarding visit to Taiwan. “If the Speaker does decide to visit, and China tries to create some kind of crisis, or otherwise escalate tensions, that would be entirely on Beijing,” Blinken said.

– Taiwan has reportedly put its military on high alert and cancelled the leave of officials and soldiers as it ‘prepares for war’ with China amid Pelosi’s visit to the country. According to reports, the military has mobilised the air defence forces to “immediately prepare for war” after a high-level briefing.

– Media reports have said that Pelosi, currently on an official Asia tour, will stop off in Taiwan and meet President Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday — if so, the highest-level US visit to Taipei in decades.

– The White House has warned that China may respond to Nancy Pelosi’s visit with military provocations, which could include firing missiles near Taiwan or large-scale air or naval activities, spokesman John Kirby said.

– The speaker began her tour of Asia on Sunday, with stops scheduled in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. She had originally planned to visit Taiwan in April, but postponed the trip after she tested positive for Covid-19.
