HANUMAKONDA: Deputy registrar of the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, (NITW) was suspended from his post on Friday following allegations of sexually harassment. A release issued by the institute’s registrar, S Goverdhan Rao, confirmed that an FIR had to be filed against, S Venateswaran, by the Kazipet police “based on a complaint made by one lady security guard of the security agency”. “As the Institute is committed to zero-tolerance of sexual harassment, pending investigation, it has been decided to place Venkteswaran under suspension, until further orders,” the release added
Speaking to TOI, Kazipet inspector Mahendar Reddy said , that the woman lodged a complaint after being harassed for three months. “In her complaint, she stated that the harassment started in April. Since then, the accused kept calling and sending her text messages insisting that she go work in his house where he lives alone. While the lady refused and even brought the issue to the notice of her incharge – requesting that her shift be changed – it was turned down. That is when she approached the police,” the official said. Police registered a case under Sec 354 (d) of the IPC.
