NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy will convey 9 Somali Pirates concerned within the hijacking of an Iranian fishing vessel with 23 Pakistani crew to India.
The Indian Navy not too long ago intercepted and rescued an Iranian fishing vessel, Al-Kambar 786, together with its 23-member Pakistani crew within the Arabian Sea. The operation came about on Friday, prompted by intelligence concerning the hijacking.
The Navy deployed patrol vessel INS Sumedha to intercept Al-Kambar within the early hours of Friday.Later, guided-missile frigate INS Trishul joined the maritime safety operation to bolster the mission.
A naval officer reported, “The crew of 23 Pakistani nationals has been safely rescued. Indian naval specialist teams are presently undertaking thorough sanitization and seaworthiness checks of Al-Kambar in order to escort her to a safe area for resuming normal fishing activities.”
This interception comes amid heightened vigilance by the Indian Navy beneath “Operation Sankalp.” The operation, initiated on March 23, marks 100 days of intensified operations within the Gulf of Aden, adjoining areas, Arabian Sea, and off the east coast of Somalia. These measures are in response to ongoing threats posed by Houthi rebels and Somali pirates, which have disrupted sea commerce within the area.
