DELAWARE- For many families across Delmarva, virtual learning has been a challenge. That’s why some people, like Jason Blanshine, are stepping up and doing what they can to make the process smoother.

“We can be there as support and I feel like a lot of just don’t know how to handle this situation we don’t know what tomorrow brings,” Blanshine, the director of Sylvan Learning, said.

Blanshine, a former teacher, is the Director of a new tutoring and enrichment center coming to Rehoboth Beach called Sylvan Learning. That center is set to open up in October.

Until then, Blanshine will be welcoming students at Factory Sports in Lewes to help provide those tutoring services.

“To be able to partner with Sylvan Learning at a time like this where families need options, need assistance I think is vital,” Brad Leinbach, Factory Sports director, said.

Here’s how it works, students will have scheduled parts of their day where they do their Zoom sessions, socially distanced at tables, on the basketball courts at Factory Sports.

During times where they are not doing their sessions, they will move the tables off the courts so kids can participate in extracurricular activities.

“I think it gives almost a sense of normalcy to students, it puts them back to as close of a school schedule as they can get,” Leinbach, said.

Blanshine said the program is set to start September 21, and he hopes that by bringing new educational programs, stem programs, and even SAT and ACT prep programs to the area it will help build community relationships.

“I hope that this brings another resource to the community I’d like to work with districts, school districts and be a partner with them to to just have something else for the students and families,” Blanshine, said.

We are told the program will run from around 9 a.m. to 3 p.m on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Kids in kindergarten up to 12th grade are welcome.
