At least 100 individuals have been killed after a ship capsized in northern Nigeria, police have mentioned.
A seek for survivors is underneath approach after the boat overturned on the River Niger on Monday morning (12 June), near neighbouring Niger state, Kwara state police spokesman Okasanmi Ajayi mentioned.
The victims, together with kids, have been coming back from an in a single day wedding ceremony ceremony within the Niger state village of Egboti, a resident within the space, Usman Ibrahim, mentioned.
Mr Ibrahim mentioned: “People in the boat were to take their bikes to their various communities [upon disembarking]. The boat was carrying more than 100 people when it sank.”
He added that as a result of the accident occurred within the early hours of the morning – at round 3am – not many knew about it till hours later.
“Up till now, some dead bodies are still being searched [for],” he mentioned.
It is just not clear if there are any survivors but.
