Bengaluru: The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) and Bengaluru-based charitable belief, NGO Ashraya Hastha Trust (AHT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bengaluru on Thursday with an intention to implement a mannequin complete rural psychological well being programme in two taluks, every in Uttarakhand and Karnataka.  

The title of the programme is ‘NAMAN’ (NIMHANS-AHT Comprehensive Mental-Health Action Program for Rural Communities) which might be first carried out within the two taluks as a mannequin earlier than being rolled out all through the nation.

Munsiyari of Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand and Belur Taluk in Hassan district of Karnataka have been chosen for the mannequin implementation of the programme. 

NIMHANS, in a launch, said, “This programme envisions to deliver promotive (i.e., implementing a multi-pronged approach to promote mental health in the general public); preventive (i.e., engaging with vulnerable populations to prevent mental illnesses, including addiction to substances and gadgets); therapeutic (i.e., providing comprehensive interventions and appropriate referrals for those with mental illnesses); and rehabilitative (i.e., offering comprehensive rehabilitation services including disability assessment and benefits to the persons living with mental health conditions) care for the entire population of the target taluks utilising the existing human resources in the community.” 

The roadmap of the programme can be developed and carried out by NIMHANS. It can be carried out in 4 totally different phases over a interval of three years. The first section entails useful resource constructing which incorporates workers recruitment and coaching, the second is a situational evaluation the place the psychological well being of the taluks can be assessed, the third is intervention strategies involving therapeutic and rehabilitation, and the fourth section entails analysis. 

In Uttarakhand, AIIMS Rishikesh would be a part of fingers with NIMHANS to implement the programme. The Government of Karnataka and the Government of Uttarakhand would even be collaborating with the institutes for growing the programme.

The Ashraya Hastha Trust is a Bengaluru-based charitable group funded by Infosys’ Co-founder Okay Dinesh and his household. NIMHANS is the apex centre for psychological well being and neuroscience schooling within the nation, functioning autonomously below the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
