Nokia 5.3 was launched originally back in March along with the Nokia 8.3 5G, Nokia 1.3, and Nokia 5310 by HMD Global.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nokia 5.3 could finally be arriving in the Indian market this month.
  • HMD Global could also be looking to launch two more handsets at the same time.
  • These two handsets could be the Nokia 8.3 5G and Nokia 1.3.

HMD Global has pretty much been absent so far this year in India. Although it did pull off an act to prove it does exist when it launched a slew of phones back in March. But only a few of them have gone on sale in most countries. As most markets await the release of the Nokia 8.3 5G, India could soon be getting the Nokia 5.3. The Nokia 5.3 was listed on the Nokia’s India website alongside the Nokia 5310 while the other two smartphones, which were announced in March, may have been put on hold for India.

A report by The Mobile Indian speculates the Nokia 5.3 could arrive in India towards the end of August. There is no specific information available, however, as in when exactly the smartphone will launch or when it will go on sale after the launch. In any case, it seems pretty late for HMD Global to be pushing a mid-range smartphone whose innards may not feel relevant anymore with the onslaught of powerful hardware by its Chinese rivals on their smartphones. For example, Poco M2 Pro has a Snapdragon 720G processor for under Rs 15,000.

Nokia 5.3, on the other hand, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor that might not be as fast as the Snapdragon 720G for heavy-duty tasks. But, otherwise, everyday tasks such as multitasking, photography, and internet browsing will work smoothly on the Nokia 5.3. The Snapdragon 665 is not a bad or weak processor, it is just the Snapdragon 720G is faster and more efficient for the price segment. Other specifications on the Nokia 5.3 include a 6.5-inch HD+ display, a 4000mAh battery, a set of four cameras (a 13-megapixel main sensor, a 5-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a depth camera), and an 8-megapixel front camera.

There is no information either on what the Nokia 5.3 is going to cost in India, but it better be priced under Rs 15,000 since there is a cut-throat competition in the price bracket HMD Global’s mid-ranger will enter.

HMD Global is also said to launch two more handsets in India alongside the Nokia 5.3 in August. These two handsets could be the Nokia 8.3 5G and Nokia 1.3, but the company has not said a word on their availability. It chose to confirm, back in March, that only Nokia 5310 and Nokia 5.3 will sell in India. We are not sure if HMD Global will launch the remaining smartphones from that particular kitty or if it will go for feature phones. There is also a chance HMD Global could unveil any of the C-series smartphones in India, which it launched in China recently.
