By Nov. 22, all Cambridge public school students that are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine will be required to get the jab, or they will not be able to participate in athletics or other after-school activities.

The city’s School Committee voted in favor of the measure during a meeting Tuesday night, an initiative recommended by Superintendent Victoria Greer. Per U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, kids 12 years and up can get the Pfizer vaccine.

Those who aren’t vaccinated can still attend school, but they will not be able to participate in extracurriculars after Nov. 29. These include sports, including club and intramurals, social events, all clubs, student government, and visual and performing arts.

“Vaccination is one of our most important tools in the fight against COVID-19 and in our efforts to maximize in-person learning for all students,” Greer said in a letter to the district community.
