Ahmedabad: With the 2036 Olympics bid in sight for Ahmedabad, the apex urban planning body for the city has earmarked 86,193 sq m land near Sanskardham Sansthan in Manipur area for a high performance centre (HPC) for sports, and a skill development institute (centre for excellence).
An HPC is an advanced training space for elite athletes that will have strength training machines, aerobic equipment, rowers and spinning bikes. There is provision for performance analysis of athletes, scientific training programmes, biomechanical assessment, medical and clinical facilities, psychological testing, experts for counselling, and strength and conditioning classes for athletes.
“The plots earmarked for the facility are in Manipur-Godhavi TP Scheme 429,” said a senior Auda official.
“The four plots for the HPC have been categorized under ‘social infrastructure’ by Auda. No other construction will be allowed on the plots,” the Auda official added. He said that the proposal for the HPC has been sent to the state government for approval.
The plan states that the four plots measure 35,634 sq m, 14,974 sq m, 29,850 sq m and 5,735 sq m respectively.
It may be recalled that Auda in 2016 had decided to formulate a TP scheme covering 372.1 hectares of land in Manipur and Godhavi adjoining Bopal. The TP scheme was earmarked as Knowledge and Institute Zone.
The draft TP scheme was approved in January 2017. The process of appointment of TPO was completed in 2018 and a preliminary approval for the same was given by the state government in 2021.
