Ocean Township High School has cancelled its teams’ in-person practices and scrimmages scheduled through Friday after three students tested positive for COVID-19, the school district announced Tuesday.

Teams were scheduled for scrimmages Thursday and Friday, including a football scrimmage set for Friday at Freehold Township.

Jim Stefankiewicz, Ocean Township Superintendent of Schools, said in a letter posted on the school district web site that the teams can return to in-person practices and scrimmages on Saturday.

The school also stopped in-person class instruction through Friday, with plans to resume on Tuesday, Sept. 29, after the Yom Kippur holiday.

The opening week for fall sports for New Jersey high schools begins Monday, Sept. 28 with girls tennis, while football, field hockey and boys and girls soccer and cross-country are set to begin next Thursday, Oct. 1.
