Optus is introducing new 5G internet plans which offer a high-speed connection via the Optus 5G network along with premium streamed entertainment packages.

Available later this year, there will be two new Optus 5G internet plans – the 5G Entertainment plan and the Optus 5G Everyday Plan capped at 1000Mbps – the same speed as the NBN.

The 5G Internet Entertainer plan will be priced at $90 a month with access to uncapped speeds on the Optus 5G network which have delivered average typical evening download speeds of 214Mbps (between 7pm and 11pom).

Customers who sign up will have unlimited data and the first month is free.

And the entertainment part of the plan includes Optus Sport and a Fetch Mighty box with a premium channel pack that includes more than 45 channels of premium streamed entertainment.

The Optus 5G Everyday plan costs $75 per month with 5G speeds capped at 100Mbps with average evening speeds of 85Mbps.

Users have unlimited data and the first month free as well as access to Optus Sport.

The new Optus 5G plans are aimed at customers who are looking for an alternative to the NBN especially those who have access to the slower fibre to the node or areas where is no NBN access as yet.

These plans will launch later this year but in the meantime Optus is still offering its first 5G broadband plan which has no speed cap and unlimited data.

Optus says those who sign up to this plan will remain on the plan and will not be required to shift to either of the new Optus 5G plans.

“Customers tell us that choice, value and speed are important to them and our new 5G Internet plans deliver exactly this,” said Matt Williams, Optus Managing Director Marketing and Revenue.

“5G creates a whole new world of experiences within the home with the ability to stream and share content from multiple devices at the same time – something that has become increasingly important this year, as our way of working, schooling and living has changed.

“Having been in market with this world leading product for nearly a year, we have seen and learnt how our thousands of customers are using our 5G Internet.

“What is clear is that customers enjoy choice and flexibility when it comes to home internet, so we have designed these new 5G Internet plans to create options for our customers – delivering them a high speed and entertainment package that works best for their lifestyle.”

Customers access the Optus 5G broadband service through a modem router which contains a SIM card so it can link to the cellular network and which can also create a wireless network in your home.

There are already more than 420,000 households in Australia that can access the Optus 5G network.
