Paresh Rawal has been appointed Chairperson of the National School of Drama (NSD), the country’s premier institute for theatre students, in Delhi.

“Renowned artiste Paresh Rawal has been appointed as Chairman of National School of Drama by Rashtrapati Bhavan. I am glad that students and artistes will be able to take advantage of his talent. I congratulate him,” Prahlad Singh Patel, Union Minister of Culture, tweeted.

“I have performed at NSD’s festival of theatre, the Bharat Rang Mahotsav, and am looking forward to my new role as Chairperson,” he said.
In films, his notable performances include Hera Pheri and OMG-Oh My God. Rawal won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1994 and was honoured with a Padma Shri in 2014.

Rawal started his showbiz career in 1982 with the Gujarati movie Naseeb Ni Balihari. He was later seen in films like Bhagwaan Dada, Naam, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Ram Lakhan and Swarg. Some of his more acclaimed works include King Uncle, Damini, Sir, Woh Chokri, Andaz Apna Apna, Mohra, Chachi 420, Hera Pheri, Aankhen, Sanju and Uri: The Surgical Strike.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Rawal won the Ahmedabad East seat by over 3.25 lakh votes as a BJP candidate.
