Prashant Kishor Adds Caution Notice To Rahul-Priyanka Gandhi's UP Visit

Political strategist Prashant Kishor this morning signaled a fallout with the Congress in a tweet on the violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur, which has made national headlines, as he said “there are no quick fix solutions to the deep-rooted problems and structural weakness of (the) GOP (Grand Old Party)”.

“People looking for a quick, spontaneous revival of (the) GOP-led opposition based on #LakhimpurKheri incident are setting themselves up for a big disappointment. Unfortunately there are no quick fix solutions to the deep-rooted problems and structural weakness of GOP,” Mr Kishor, 44, tweeted, as he referred to the detentions and arrests this week of top Congress leaders protesting the eight deaths in the UP district.

In July, speculation had intensified of Mr Kishor joining the Congress as he visited the Gandhis in Delhi.

Eight people, including four farmers, were run over by a car amid demonstrations by farmers against the visit of Union Minister Ajay Mishra and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish has been accused of murders by farmers.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was arrested and several top party leaders were detained this week amid protests against the violence in the UP district on Sunday – where four farmers also died – before Rahul Gandhi with his sister finally met the families of those killed on Wednesday. Sachin Pilot and Navjot Singh Sidhu were among the leaders detained while Chattishgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel held a sit-in at Lucknow airport on Tuesday after he was stopped when he was on his way to meet Ms Gandhi Vadra.
