The ongoing three-day regional sports meet of the Varanasi region featuring Kabaddi for Girls under 14 and 17 years at Kendriya Vidyalaya-Manauri was formally declared closed by the principal of the host school Shalini Dikshit on Thursday.

In this meet, several teams from various Kendriya Vidyalayas of the Varanasi Region including KV-Azamgarh, KV-Shakti Nagar, KV-Mau, KV-Ballia, KV-BHU in Varanasi (Shift 1 and 2), KV-Bamrauli, K-V New Cantonment (Shift 1 and 2) of Prayagraj besides KV Air Force Station-Gorakhpur, KV-Gangrani (Kushinagar) participated.

The closing ceremony began with the flag lowering by Shalini Dikshit (venue principal) which was followed by handing over of the flag and declaration of the meet closure by PK Mishra, vice-principal of KV-Manauri.

Shalini Dikshit in her address congratulated the winning teams and all players of various KVs for their excellent display and fighting spirit, game spirit and maintaining discipline during the event and their stay.

She blessed the players for their next level and wished to bring laurel to the Varanasi region and a brilliant and shining career in days yet to come. She also highlighted that regional sports meet inculcates moral values, leadership skills, teamwork and unique adjustment as well as stress management. It is the players who prove that winners are two inches higher than their chief rivals. It also teaches them how to manage their emotions in critical conditions of life.

The final match of Kabaddi in Under-14 was played between the teams of KV-CRPF Phaphamau and KV-BHU (2nd shift) in which KV-CRPF Phaphamau emerged as the winner. In another final match of under-17 Kabaddi, KV-New Cantonment (1st shift) emerged as the champion by defeating their rival KV-Shaktinagar by 45 points.

The regional sports meet kick-started on August 23 and 111 players of U-17 and 77 players of U-14, from different Kendriya Vidyalayas of the Varanasi region, participated in the event. Besides these players and escorts, eight match referees helped in conducting the event smoothly even as one observer was also deputed by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan’s regional office-Varanasi to observe the event.
