Prepare to decode cryptic texts signed ‘-A’ by a sociopath (or a group of sociopaths) with the return of Pretty Little Liars! The teen drama is getting a reboot series from the creator of Riverdale, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. And it makes perfect sense.

The binge-able teen mystery drama Pretty Little Liars starring Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish had a long successful run between 2010-17. With murder mysteries, perfect campy thriller moments and an ever-thickening plot, the series still has tonnes of rewatch value. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, you might not have to rewatch the show for the millionth time because a reboot is in the works which will be created by Riverdale and Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Pretty Little Liars is a perfect fit for the showrunner and a Riverdale-Esque reboot is just the right thing to revive the series. Add a dark setting, perhaps a neighbouring town like Greendale, maybe a song cover or two and boom, you have ‘PLL: Riverdale Edition’. *Secret by The Pierces plays*. It’s teen drama gold!

Freedom’s (formerly ABC Family) Pretty Little Liars based on I. Marlene King’s novels revolves around a group of highschool girls Aria, Spencer, Hannah, Emily and Allison who are tormented by a mysterious blackmailer “A” who threatens to expose their darkest secrets. And they have many secrets. After its initial run, the series got a spin-off titled Ravenswood and more recently, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists with Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish returning to the franchise as Allison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal. The show enjoyed a good TV run and plenty of fan appreciation to its merit. The upcoming reboot will be reportedly developed by Warner Bros. TV and will most likely be about new characters. Currently, there are no updates about a network attached to the project but it is being told that HBO Max might pick up the series.

We’ll just be here waiting for ‘A’s dramatic return to TV.
