  • Here is a step-by-step guide for better oral care to reduce risk of cavities, tooth decay, and other diseases

New Delhi: Healthy teeth, gums, and mouth are important to keep the rest of the body healthy. Improper oral care and compromised oral hygiene have been linked with heart disease, some types of cancer, and tooth decay, among other health issues. It is extremely important to keep your teeth, gums, and tongue healthy also because it is the first step to healthy digestion.

However, with so many new techniques recommended for oral care and new devices launching every day to help with the process, people tend to get confused on what they must do, and which steps should they skin. Scarcity of time is also a factor – when people can hardly find time to brush their teeth, how are they supposed to incorporate an elaborate oral care process into their routine every morning?

A step-by-step guide to better oral care

To improve oral health and keep your teeth and gums healthy, here is a step-by-step guide that you must follow.

Brush your teeth – Your mornings or day should begin with brushing your teeth. You must brush your teeth for at least two minutes and ensure you remove any particles of food or impurities stuck around the teeth properly.

Mouthwash – Many people think it is a substitute to brush your teeth. However, while it may help get rid of odour just as same, it has a special function in the oral care regime. Mouthwash helps to remove any food particles, impurities, etc that you removed with the help of your toothbrush, but eventually did not rinse out of the mouth. Mouthwashes also have antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which help improve oral health and keep odour at bay.

Clean your tongue – The tongue can be host to many germs and impurities. A dirty tongue is also likely to cause foul smell from your mouth. You must clean your tongue as a part of the oral care process, every day.

Floss – Flossing is recommended to be practised every day. Flossing helps remove impurities and food particles stuck between your teeth and help in all-round cleaning of the mouth. Knowing the correct way to floss is very important.
