Former India captain and the current director of National Cricket Academy, Rahul Dravid, formally applied for the position of head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team on Tuesday, sources in the BCCI told NDTV.  Dravid, considered the front-runner for the position, is expected to take charge from November 17th, the sources said. The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee will pick the next coach of the team soon as the incumbent Ravi Shastri’s term comes to an end after India’s campaign at the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

Former India paceman Paras Mhambrey has applied for the bowling coach’s position, while former India wicket-keeper Ajay Ratra has applied for the fielding coach’s position, the sources further told NDTV.

India take on New Zealand in a three-match T20I series from November 17th. It could be the start of a new era for the team as India will also have a new T20I captain for the series as Virat Kohli earlier announced that he will step down from the captaincy in the shortest format after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

India will also play a two-match Test series against New Zealand. Dravid has in the past coached the India A and India U-19 teams.
