Women in our society are subjected to various beauty standards and other oppressive norms, and women in the entertainment industry have often raised their voices against it and brought it to notice. For instance, Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha talked about being fat-shamed in college and body shaming in Bollywood, or how actress Sameera Reddy felt ‘ugly’ post-pregnancy and shared a body-positive note to help other moms tackle it. Another incident, this time relating to ageism and age shaming has come into the light via actress Rashmi Desai.

As per a report in TOI, Rashmi Desai took to her Instagram stories to call out faceless trolls and bullies for age shaming her. Sharing the screenshots of the men who commented calling her “buddhi” and “ghatiya aunty”, she replied to them saying, “This has been happening for a while now. Enough is enough. There’s a limit of trolling an individual.”

She also tagged the official Instagram handles of the prime minister Narendra Modi, Mumbai Police, Cybercrime Helpline, as well as Cyber Crime India. Check out the screenshots below:-

In the first story she wrote, “Are these the thoughts you have for your mother, sister, girlfriend, or any woman for that matter? This is what your partner or your surrounding teaches you? Or is it your own vulgar mind? Really sad to see that people like you know how to write but don’t know what to write and that’s when you guys lack education and you guys need it. I pity you, boys, with such filthy mind.”

She continued on further in the next story saying, “Seriously, these days negativity, hate is quite easy to choose but becoming a star isn’t that easy and when it comes to spreading love, people are finding that difficult. And on top of it, you’ll have kept your insta handle name as #LOVE and #Star. What a shame!”

She finally came out strong and posted a photo of herself with the caption, “I am who I am, your opinion doesn’t define me.”
