The Baltimore Ravens have been known to be very good at finding talent in the NFL draft. They have a team of very intelligent scouts and talent evaluators that are able to identify prospects that fit the organization both on and off of the field, something which the Ravens value immensely.

Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports put together a 2022 mock draft that spans just one round, and selected a very intriguing prospect for Baltimore. Picking out of the No. 27 spot, Trapasso took University of Georgia cornerback Derion Kendrick for the Ravens, offering a very simple explanation of his selection.

“The Ravens address the cornerback spot with an NFL-ready cornerback in Kendrick.”

Kendrick is a converted quarterback and wide receiver. He played his final two years of high school as a quarterback before playing wide receiver at Clemson University during his freshman year. He converted to cornerback during his sophomore year of college, and has developed his technique at a rapid pace, showing plenty of potential.

The 6-foot, 190 pound cornerback was dismissed from Clemson before his senior season, citing that he was with his son who was having problems at the time. He revealed that he was going back and forth from the hospital, which seemingly caused miscommunication between him and the school. He transferred to the University of Georgia in June, where he is playing out his senior season.

The selection of Kendrick would be a best player available pick for Baltimore, as the Ravens are already very deep at the cornerback position. However, injuries have plagued the Baltimore secondary so far during 2021, proving that a team can never have enough depth in any one area. If Baltimore doesn’t re-sign Anthony Averett and/or Jimmy Smith retires, the team could need a few more talented playmakers in their secondary. Kendrick could certainly be one of them if the fit is right.
