SAGINAW, MI — The 52nd Saginaw African Cultural Festival will take place virtually and event organizers have announced the entertainment lineup.

The virtual festival is scheduled to take place Friday, Aug. 14, through Sunday, Aug. 16.

The festival, a celebration of African culture, heritage and art, which normally features live music and entertainment, food, vendors and more, has moved online because of the threat of coronavirus and COVID-19. Instead of gathering together in person, viewers are invited to tune in via Facebook Live all three days.

Below is the entertainment schedule as announced Friday, Aug. 7, via the Saginaw African Cultural Festival Facebook page:

The decision to cancel the traditional festival was made to safeguard the health and well-being of the thousands of exhibitors, guests, vendors, performers and volunteers that typically support the event, event organizers previously told MLive. Many other community events have been postponed or canceled in recent months in mid-Michigan because of the pandemic, including Friday Night Live, Jazz on Jefferson, Fourth of July fireworks displays, Party on McCarty, Frankenmuth Dog Bowl, and the Greek Festival of Saginaw, which will have a drive-thru-only format this year.
