Santikos Entertainment announced in a news release Monday that it will reopen its seventh movie theater this week.

The San Antonio-based cinema chain will restart its operations at its Northwest theater at 7600 Interstate 10 West on Friday. The location is the seventh movie theater Santikos has reopened since the company shut down its operations in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Santikos Entertainment has nine movie theaters in the San Antonio area; the two in the are that remain closed are the Santikos Bijou location at Wonderland of the Americas Mall and the Silverado 16 theater near Bandera Road and Loop 1604.

Like its other operating theaters, the Northwest location will open at 50 percent capacity, per Gov. Greg Abbott’s “Open Texas” plan, which allowed all cinema venues to reopen on May 1.

Face masks are mandatory in all common areas of the theater such as lobbies, hallways, restrooms, restaurants, lounges, game rooms and concession stands. Masks may be removed when eating, drinking or when seated for the movie, according to Santikos’ website. Tickets can be bought online or at a kiosk that will be cleaned after every use. The company stated in the release it can reopen another location due to the success of the Christopher Nolan film “Tenet,” which garnered 20.2 million dollars in ticket sales in the U.S. over Labor Day weekend.

In February, Santikos announced that two new movie theaters are expected to open in 2021, with one location in Leon Springs and the other near Bulverde Road and Loop 1604.
