Santikos Entertainment announced in a news release Monday that it will reopen its sixth movie theater during Labor Day Weekend.

The San Antonio-based cinema chain stated its Santikos Galaxy theater, located at 2938 NE Loop 410, will be back in business on Friday to screen the much-anticipated Christopher Nolan film “Tenet.”

The company remodeled and reopened its Northeast Side theater in November 2019, changing its name from Santikos Rialto to The Galaxy, which is what the location was named when it originally opened in 1979.

In March, Santikos temporarily closed all of its locations due to the coronavirus pandemic. The entertainment group reopened the Palladium, Casa Blanca and its Cibolo location on May 2, the Mayan Palace 14 on May 21 and the Santikos Embassy theater on June 26.

As part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s “Open Texas” plan, movie theaters first reopened at 25 percent capacity on May 1. Movie theaters are currently open at 50 percent occupancy as part of “Phase 3” of Abbott’s plan.

The Santikos Galaxy theater will have the same social distancing guidelines and restrictions that are currently in place at the five open movie theaters. Some seats and aisles will be blocked to ensure social distancing.

Face masks are mandatory in all common areas of the theater such as lobbies, hallways, restrooms, restaurants, lounges, game rooms and concession stands. Masks may be removed when eating, drinking or when seated for the movie, according to Santikos’ website. Tickets can be bought online or at a kiosk that will be cleaned after every use. Santikos Entertainment has nine movie theaters in the San Antonio area. The company announced in February that two new Santikos locations are expected to open in 2021. One movie theater is set to be located in Leon Springs on the far Northwest Side while the other is expected to be on the city’s North Side on Bulverde Road and Loop 1604.
