Kolhapur: Kolhapur guardian minister Satej Patil on Sunday said that the sports complex for the disabled persons and the work of extension of the airstrip at Kolhapur airport will be done soon.
Patil was speaking at the ‘Brand Kolhapur’ event presided over by Vikas Kharage, principal secretary to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. The event focused on felicitating individuals from all age groups who have succeeded in their respective fields and have helped make a name for Kolhapur.
The guardian minister announced that a sports complex for disabled athletes will be developed at Shendapark soon. “We are developing divisional sports complex over 10 acres and by the side, sports complex over 5 acres will be developed exclusively for divyang athletes. We are boosting the developments at the airport which is necessary to improve connectivity. We have already extended the airstrip to 1,900 m from 1,300 m. It will be further extended to 2,300m so that large-sized aircraft such as Boeing and Airbus could land. The night landing facilities have also been completed. This will help increase footfall to the city and thereby, the economic activities will gain momentum.”
Kharage, in his speech, said climate change has led to the hitting of two cyclones on the Konkan coast in one year and south Maharashtra witnessed three successive floods. Kharage who belongs to Kolhapur said, “Kolhapur doesn’t need any brand ambassadors. It has its own creation in its soil. From environment to sports, the youths from the district have imprinted their names to the global level.”
