HALIFAX, N.S. —

The Halifax harbourside lot at the foot of Salter Street will become the S|E|A Waterfront Theatre starting on Labour Day weekend, and continuing into October with a variety of live entertainment and sports events.

Operating according to provincial COVID-19 health regulations, the theatre is presented by Sports & Entertainment Atlantic and Develop Nova Scotia, and will feature a drive-in format for 36 vehicles, two premium tables and three upper deck bubbles on Harbour Hopper vehicles, in accordance with limitations on outdoor gathering and physical distancing protocols.

Entertainment begins on Labour Day weekend with a Friday, Sept. 4 show by acclaimed Halifax songwriter Mo Kenney at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 5, Halifax’s multi-piece masters of funk and R&B, the Mellotones, will bring their high energy sound to the S|E|A Waterfront Theatre stage at 8 p.m.

Fresh from his popular series of online quarantine performances, Dartmouth rocker Adam Baldwin will be joined by the Lake City Motor Band on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m. Wrapping up the Labour Day series with a special matinee on Monday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. is popular U.K.-raised, Saint John-based comedian James Mullinger, who recently returned to live performance with one of the first live shows of the summer, a sold-out set at New Brunswick’s Sussex Drive-In in June.

“Experiencing and supporting live entertainment on the waterfront is something many of us have missed and we’ve been working with both new and old partners to welcome these sights and sounds back safely,” said Jennifer Angel, president and CEO of Develop Nova Scotia in announcing the series.

“Now in partnership with Sports & Entertainment Atlantic, we’re creating new opportunities to enjoy an exciting mix of family-friendly entertainment at the water’s edge.”

Additional S|E|A Waterfront Theatre shows and events like youth ball hockey tournaments will be announced for the following weekends in September and the first weekend in October.

Tickets for the Labour Day weekend shows go on sale on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at www.tickethalifax.com, available in groups of up to four for carloads, or groups of 10 for the premium table and Harbour Hopper upper deck bubbles.
