PUNE: Coach Amit Sheoran, w ho discovered and trained India’s ace shooter Saurabh Chaudhary, is struggling with his health and financial crisis. Sheoran, who runs his academy in Binauli near Meerut suffered a paralytic attack a month ago and later it was found that there are blockages in his arteries. However, with no income for the past 18 months, the coach is finding it difficult to survive.
“I suffered a stroke last month, which was followed by partial paralysis. I was treated for that and the blood clot in the brain was removed. When further investigated, it was found that my arteries are blocked and I need a by-pass surgery,” Sheoran told TOI.
Since there is swelling in the veins connecting to Sheoran’s heart, he said he will have to take medication before he is ready for the surgery. The Covid-forced lockdowns pushed Sheoran towards financial crisis as he couldn’t run his academy, which is his only source of income.
“Saurabh and my other students along with fellow coaches have contributed around 1.5 lakh towards my treatment. I have to come for tests, and it is very expensive. I don’t know how I will manage to get treatment and the surgery done,” Sheoran said.
When contacted, NRAI president Raninder Singh said, although in a personal capacity, he will make sure to help the coach.
“Amit is a talented coach and he has been instrumental in giving India one of the best shooters in the world. I will make sure financial help reaches him in three days. I will personally assure that he doesn’t face any more problems for his treatment,” the NRAI president said.
