Should I invest in a technology fund?

[ad_1]

I am 31 years old and I have been investing in mutual funds for the last three years. I am looking for a long-term SIP investment above 10 years as a risk-taker. I am investing in monthly SIP in the below mutual funds:

Is this portfolio fine or do I need to reallocate them? I am planning to invest in a technology fund. Should I go for it?

You are investing in too many schemes. You are investing around Rs 18,000. You need only two schemes in your portfolio. Too many schemes often drag your overall returns.

Also, your portfolio lacks focus. Find out your risk profile by taking an online quiz and choose mutual funds based on your risk profile. For example, if you are a moderate investor, you can invest mostly in flexi cap funds. You can take a small exposure in large cap funds if you want to reduce risk and diversity.

We do not advocate investing in sector or thematic funds to regular investors because we believe they will not be able to time their entry and exit in these schemes. The fortunes of these schemes depend entirely on the performance of a sector or theme. One needs to have intimate knowledge of the sector to maximise returns.

A regular investor can get decent exposure to a sector in vogue by investing in a flexi cap scheme. A good fund will have exposure to happening sectors and themes.
