In 2020, the General Assembly via decision 75/240, established a brand new five-year open-ended working group on safety of and in using data and communications applied sciences 2021–2025.

The group is remitted to additional develop the foundations, norms and rules of accountable behaviour of States; to contemplate initiatives of States geared toward guaranteeing safety in using data and communications applied sciences; to ascertain, below the auspices of the United Nations, common institutional dialogue with the broad participation of States; to proceed to review, with a view to selling widespread understandings, present and potential threats within the sphere of knowledge safety, inter alia, information safety, and potential cooperative measures to stop and counter such threats, and the way worldwide regulation applies to using data and communications applied sciences by States, in addition to confidence-building measures and capacity-building.
