GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Colorado Mesa University had a small outdoor party Friday, with the help of an organization called Sober AF Entertainment, also known as S.A.F.E.

The organization specializes in doing just that– holding events that would traditionally involve alcohol, but switching the alcohal for games and non-alcohalic drinks.

It aims to create “safe spaces in fun places”.

S.A.F.E makes appearances at concerts, tailgates, and school campuses to encourage a fun, sober, experience.

“We are doing this because last year, 72,000 people overdosed and died… we don’t think that should be the only culture,” says Duke Rumley, the Founder of Sober AF Entertainment.

Safe specifically payed a visit to Colorado Mesa University Friday in light of National Overdose Awareness Day, which is this coming Monday, August 31st.

The director of S.A.F.E says the state of Colorado gave the organization grant money to do more events in the Grand Valley because of its high overdose rate.

The only other city that recieved the grant is Pueblo, Colorado, for the same reason.
