Another school district has canceled fall sports.

The board that governs two Burlington County Institute of Technology schools announced on Thursday that Medford Tech and Westampton Tech will not play fall sports this year.

“During this very unprecedented time, decisions made regarding a return to business as usual are often difficult.,” Dr. Christopher Nagy, the school district’s superintendent, wrote in a letter posted on the district’s website. “With that being said, the health and safety of our student athletes and coaches will remain a top priority. At this morning’s BCIT/BCSSSD Board of Education meeting, the Board approved that the BCIT sports community will not return to competition during the Fall 2020 season.”

Medford Tech and Westampton Tech are the latest schools to have fall sports called off, joining a list of districts that include Leonia, Carteret, Dover, Teaneck, Piscataway and West Windsor-Plainsboro.

Trenton and New Egypt have also announced that they will not play football in the fall.

The district’s decision came on the same day that the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) announced that it will move forward with its plan to play fall sports.

The BCIT board said it is still determining whether its schools will play winter sports.

Westampton Tech’s girls basketball team is the two-time defending Central Jersey, Group 3 champions.

“Over the next few weeks the administration from BCIT will assess the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and make recommendations for the winter season,” said Nagy. “Future guidance provided by Governor Murphy, updates from NJSIAA, and the information provided by the New Jersey Department of Education will also guide BCIT’s decision to return to sports during the 2021 winter and spring seasons.”
