The Southside Southerners bounced back from two straight losses to beat the Clinton Yellowjackets 38-21 at Stewart field on the Southerner’s senior night.

“I was very pleased to finally see us put together a total team victory,” said Southside head coach Brian Reardon. “We won all three phases of game, special teams, offense, and defense.”

“It’s was awesome to get a big win at home for senior night,” Reardon added. “The offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage and Bryson Duncan had a big night for us with four TDs. I was pleased to see sophomore QB Chase Duncan have a solid performance, managed the game well and made plays when needed. Kicker Skylar Anorve had another big night for us, and defensively Bo trucks lead the way with 10 tackles.”

The game opened with a Clinton touchdown just over two minutes into the first quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run, putting the Yellowjackets up 7-0.

The Southerners answered quickly with one of Bryson Duncan’s four touchdowns to tie the game at 7-7.

Clinton later got a 50-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-7. The Southerners scored the next 24 points to lead 31-14 at the half.

Brycen Sutton scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to end the scoring for the Southerners. Duncan finished the game with four touchdowns and 124 yards rushing, while Sutton ended with a touchdown and 95 yards rushing.

Duncan completed 10 of 14 passes for 120 yards. The Southerner defense also made big plays grabbing two interceptions, as well as a safety.

Bo Trucks had one interception and made key plays that would stop a Clinton drive. Justin Vanatten got an interception too. Vanatten played excellent pass protection all night.

Southside’s special teams were also a vital part of the win. Southerner kicker, Skyler Anorve, had two of his kickoffs recovered by the Southerners, which gave them a considerable edge in the game.

The win moves the Southerners to 1-1 in the conference and 2-3 overall.

Next week the Southerners will make the trip to Lonoke to take on the Jackrabbits on Friday.

“They’re very talented and fast as usual,” Reardon said. “We are gonna have our hands full trying to contain their speed, but I think we should be able to run the ball right at them behind our big O-line, and win the special teams battle.”
