The Archie Williams High football team was down to its final shot on Saturday when coach Anthony Jackson called a timeout to consider his options.

“I called the timeout and the kids came over to the side and said they wanted to do this or that,” Jackson said. “I said if we’re gonna go out, we’re gonna go out with what we see. … We drew it up in the sand like backyard football and it just happened to work. We got over the top.”

Max Henzl hauled in a 40-yard touchdown on fourth-and-10 in the final minute to give the Peregrine Falcons a 29-22 home win against San Rafael.

Archie Williams had a touchdown called back that could have put the game away earlier in the quarter. San Rafael then capitalized on a fumble and scored on a quarterback draw by Charlie Grant to pull within 21-20 in the final 2 minutes. The Bulldogs went for two and got it — again on a run by Grant — to inch in front, 22-21.

Archie Williams (6-3, 2-3) got a long rushing touchdown from Nate Karpay-Brody, a kickoff return score by Aidan Lopez and another TD grab by Henzl earlier in the game. Karpay-Brody ran for a 60-yard touchdown on Archie William’s first offensive play of the game.

San Rafael’s early touchdowns were scored by Harry Pocock and Jack Healy, respectively.

The Peregrine Falcons take aim at a seven-win campaign when they close the regular season against Novato next Saturday. San Rafael finishes the regular season with the annual Bell Game against Terra Linda on Friday night.

MC rolls

Michael Ingrassia watched the first quarter from the sidelines then threw four touchdowns in the second to lead Marin Catholic to a 42-0 win against Novato.

Ingrassia “strained something during warmups,” according to coach Mazi Moayed so Matthew Greco played quarterback for the first 12 minutes.

Greco threw a touchdown pass to give MC a 7-0 lead then caught two of Ingrassia’s scoring passes in the second. Greer Arthur caught a pair of scoring passes and Charlie Knapp also had a receiving touchdown. Andrew Ramos returned a fumble for a touchdown to account for MC’s other score.

The game was abandoned after a Novato player went down with an injury with MC (8-1, 4-0) driving in the third quarter.
