NICKERSON — Due to a positive COVID-19 case, the Nickerson High School football team will quarantine until Oct. 10, according to athletic director Jon McLean.

This Friday’s game against Hugoton has been cancelled, as has Nickerson’s Oct. 9 game. Per the rules of quarantine, the football team will not engage in any practice or games until at least Oct. 10.

The Nickerson football team is schedule to return to play on Oct. 16 at home against Cheney.

Five Reno County volleyball teams remain ranked; Pretty Prairie climbs to No. 1

The latest Kansas Volleyball Association rankings are out, and there is big news in Pretty Prairie.

Pretty Prairie, 14-1 on the season, is ranked No. 1 in Class 1A Division I. Although the Bulldogs suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday against Pratt-Skyline, Pretty Prairie is still rolling strong and has officially become the team to beat in 1A Division I, at least for this week.

Central Christian remained steady at No. 6 in Class 1A Division II.

In Class 4A, the emergence of McPherson has knocked everyone except Andale down at least one spot. Buhler went from No. 4 to No. 5, and Nickerson dropped from third all the way to No. 9.

Andale and McPherson are the top two teams in 4A.

Hutchinson kept its No. 10 ranking in 6A.

Wednesday’s rankings were the first to account for the 2020-2021 KSHSAA classification guildlines.
