HYDERABAD: Academia Sports Village (ASV) celebrated the National Sports Day, being held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, at their tennis courts in Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club complex in Aziz Nagar on the outskirts of the city on Saturday.
The members of the ASV paid glowing tributes to India’s greatest hockey player, Dhyan Chand, on the occasion of his 115th birth anniversary. Dhyan Chand was instrumental in India winning the hat-trick of gold medals at the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympic Games.
ASV members felicitated Srisailam legislator Silpa Chakrapani Reddy, who was the chief guest at the function, on the occasion.
Sportspersons and coaches associated with ASV and HPRC, including Reaz Ahmed, HPRC administration secretary, Mohammad Shamsuddin, CEO of Academia Sports Village, coaches K Shanker and Ramu (tennis), Waheed (HPRC fitness coach), Dogra (HPRC), and Irina Prikhodko, a trainee from Russia, were present.
Tennis training resumed at the ASV a few weeks ago after the academy was shut down due to nationwide lockdown owing to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. “We are strictly following all the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government,” said Mohammad Shamsuddin, CEO of the ASV.
