CJI administers oath of workplace to 2 new Supreme Court judges – Justices Bhuyan and Bhatti

New Delhi:

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud at present administered the oath of workplace to Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S Venkatanarayana Bhatti as judges of the Supreme Court.

With the swearing-in of Justices Bhuyan and Bhatti, the working power of judges within the Supreme court docket has risen to 32 towards the sanctioned power of 34, together with the CJI.

The CJI administered the oath of workplace to the 2 new judges in a swearing-in ceremony held on the Supreme court docket’s auditorium right here.

The central authorities had cleared the names of Justice Bhuyan, who was the chief justice of the Telangana High Court, and Justice Bhatti, his counterpart in Kerala, for elevation as judges of the Supreme court docket on July 12.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal had introduced the elevation of the 2 judges on Wednesday.

“During his long tenure as a judge of the High Court Justice Bhuyan has acquired significant experience in diverse fields of law. “His judgments cowl broad ranging points pertaining to legislation and justice. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan is a decide with a great status for integrity and competence,” the collegium resolution uploaded on the Supreme court website had said.

Justice Bhatti, who was born on May 6, 1962, was appointed as a judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on April 12, 2013 and was the senior-most in his parent high court.

The collegium resolution had noted that the High Court of Andhra Pradesh does not have any representation on the bench of the Supreme Court since August 2022.

Justice Bhatti was transferred to the High Court of Kerala in March 2019 and was serving as the chief justice there since June 1, 2023.

“During his lengthy tenure as a decide of the High Court of Andhra High Pradesh and as a Judge and subsequently as Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala, Justice Bhatti has acquired appreciable expertise in numerous branches of legislation.

“The judgments authored by him dealing with issues in various branches of law stand testimony to his legal acumen and competence. Apart from according representation to the State of Andhra Pradesh, the appointment of Justice Bhatti will provide a value addition in terms of his acquired knowledge and experience.
