Target and CVS are the latest retailers to implement face covering requirements in their stores across the country.

Target said in a statement that it would begin requiring customers to cover their noses and mouths beginning Aug. 1, building “on the more than 80% of our stores that already require guests to wear face coverings due to local and state regulations,” CNN reported.

The company said it would provide disposable masks at entrances to customers who don’t have one.

CVS Chief Operating Officer Jon Roberts said in a statement that the company has required employees to wear face masks and encouraged customers to, but as the number of coronavirus cases increases, “we’re joining others in taking the next step and requiring all customers to wear face coverings when entering any of our stores throughout the country effective Monday, July 20.”

“To be clear, we’re not asking our store employees to play the role of enforcer,” Roberts continued. “What we are asking is that customers help protect themselves and those around them by listening to the experts and heeding the call to wear a face covering.”

The announcements from both retailers come a day after Walmart announced it would require face coverings in its stores and in Sam’s Club stores on Monday. Best Buy also said in a statement on Tuesday that customers would be required to cover their nose and mouth when inside stores. While Kohl’s has only required its employees to wear face masks, the company announced on Wednesday that it will now extend that requirement beginning on Monday.
