Terrorists Don't Play By Rules, So Response Can't Have Rules: S Jaishankar

S Jaishankar spoke about change in India’s overseas coverage since 2014 and the best way terrorism is handled.

Pune:

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday stated there’s a change in India’s overseas coverage since 2014 and it’s the method terrorism is handled.

Mr Jaishankar was interacting with youth at an occasion titled ‘Why Bharat Matters: Opportunity for youth and participation in world situation’ in Pune.

Asked about that are international locations that India finds tough to take care of relationships with, he stated one, Pakistan, was within the neighbourhood and “for that we are only responsible”.

In 1947, Pakistan invaded Kashmir and the Indian Army countered them and the mixing of the state befell, he identified.

“While the Indian Army was taking its action, we stopped and went to the UN and mentioned the work of tribal invaders instead of terrorism (Lashkar). If we, from the very start, were clear that Pakistan is using terrorism, then would have had a very different policy,” the EAM stated.

Terrorism can’t be acceptable underneath any circumstances,” he asserted.

Asked about continuity in the country’s foreign policy, Mr Jaishankar said, “My reply is sure. There is 50 % continuity and there’s 50 % change. That one change is on terrorism.”

“After the Mumbai assault, there was not a single one that felt we must always not have responded. But it was thought on the time that the price of attacking Pakistan is greater than not attacking Pakistan,” he added.

“If one thing like Mumbai (26/11) occurs now and if one doesn’t react then how does one stop the subsequent assault,” Mr Jaishankar asked.

“Terrorists mustn’t really feel since they’re throughout the border, nobody can contact them. Terrorists don’t play by any guidelines so the reply to the terrorists can not have any guidelines,” he stated.
