To the editor:

On Oct. 9, 2021, the 50th annual Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon and 10K was held. At this year’s event, we hosted over 400 participants, well over the expected number of participants, considering the number of events on and around Oct. 9 and with the border closure (21% of past participants were from Canada).

Many of the participants were first time visitors to our community, experiencing a brilliant fall day. We would like to thank the residents of the village of Lake Placid and the town of North Elba for accepting this event.

The Lake Placid Classic is one of the only running events that is not-for-profit, and operates entirely with volunteers, with all profits directed at local youth and wellness organizations. This year we add significantly to our seven year total of over $75,000 contributed to the youth of the Lake Placid region and wellness scholarship funds.

This event would not be possible without our title sponsors: the Fallen Arch, Long Run Wealth Advisors and Trail NorthCredit Union. Gold sponsors: Adirondack Health, MVP Healthcare and the Mirror Lake Inn. Silver support from Aldi’s, Lake Placid Pub and Brewery, Mike Foote Insurance and NBT Bank.

And bronze sponsors: Lake Placid Family Dental, Burnham Financial services, Lake Placid Sports Medicine, Lamb Lumber, Art Devlin’s Olympic Motor Inn, Hurley Brother’s, G. Pratt Agency and Stewart’s Shops.

This year’s race received the support from over 70 volunteers from the Lake Placid/Wilmington CYC teens, parents and leaders, staff from Adirondack Health, and many members of the Lake Placid community, all contributing to a successful event.

Lastly, I wish to thank the village of Lake Placid, town of North Elba, North Elba Park District, Mr. Greg Borzilleri, the Lake Placid Police Department, Lake Placid Highway Department and Brad Hathaway, Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department and Justin Roy, Essex County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police. Without their enormous support, this event would not be possible.

Sincerely,

Rick Preston
