NEW DELHI: The five India hockey players, including national team skipper Manpreet Singh, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, are doing well at the Sports Authority of India’s National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Bengaluru.
According to a press release, the players are being attended to by SAI’s in-house doctor as well as one doctor from the state government.
Dr. Avinash HR, who has been deputed by the state government, said: “The vitals of the players like temperature, oxygen levels have been monitored and all five players have been found to be mild symptomatic cases. Except for one the other four players did not have a fever. They are doing fine and we have put them on immunity boosters and other support medicines.”
SAI said the routine investigations as per protocol will be conducted by doctors till their vitals are normal again.
Indian men’s hockey team’s chief coach Graham Reid also said that he is in touch with the five players (Manpreet, Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar and Krishan B Pathak) and they are doing fine.
“I am constantly in touch with all five of them and they are doing fine. SAI has made every arrangement to give them the best care. The chefs are making special dishes for them as per their choice, beyond the mess menu, and the athletes are very happy about it,” Reid, who is in Bengaluru, said.
To ensure that the players have 24-hour access to the authorities on campus, two SAI officers have been earmarked to exclusively monitor them and cater to their requirements.
Initially, all the players had tested negative as per the rapid tests, which were made mandatory for all athletes, who reported back to the camp, by SAI. However, after Manpreet and Surender began to display some Covid-like symptoms later, they along with the other ten athletes who had travelled together were given the Quantitative RT-PCR test on Thursday, and the said five players were found to be Covid positive.
