AUSTINTOWN — Thomas Wayne Herbold, 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, after a battle with Alzheimer’s, with his loved ones by his side.

Tom was born April 17, 1942, in Lakewood, to Erwin and Eleanor (Moberg) Herbold. He served in the Army from December 1965 until September 1967, stationed in Korea.

Upon returning from service, he earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Cleveland State University. Over his 40-year career in accounting, he worked for Sealtest Dairy, Anchor Motor Freight and Dean Dairy.

On July 18, 1970, he married Judith Ann Burden. They raised their two children, Heather and Matthew.

Tom loved any type of outdoor activity: camping, hiking and running, so much so that he took on the role of Scout master for Boy Scout Troop 75. He also loved watching sports, especially Cleveland teams. He was a very outgoing person, known for his sly smirk and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Eleanor Herbold; and sister-in-law, Kay Herbold.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Heather (Mike) Stephens, son, Matthew (Kendra); brothers, Roger and Keith (Rita); grandchildren, Kayla, Braden, Roy and Serenity; nieces, Sara, Karen, Michelle, Melanie and Lisa; and nephews, Bob and Ken.

A private showing and graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 4, 2020.

Arrangements were handled by the Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton, Ohio.
